Austria is one of the most forested nations in Europe and forests cover 44% of its area. Up to 1,200 m (4,000 ft), the mountains are covered in feeds (mainly beech, birch, and oak) and coniferous trees (fir), with fir followed by lark and stone pine. There is a wide variety of wildlife.
