On the Kalenbergergracht is located on an island this old peat farm from 1915. The farmhouse has been converted into a home with all amenities. The main house has a sitting room with fireplace and large television, open kitchen with dishwasher, oven and nespresso, extendable table for 8. The old stable has been converted into a comfortable sleeping house; with four large bedrooms and a large playroom with a separate fridge/freezer. In the bathroom with shower there is a washer and dryer. The front and back house have central heating. In three places around the nature house there are large terraces with outdoor furniture. There is a swimming ladder and enough space to moor a boat. To get to the nature house you need the rowboat or pontoon moored across the canal. From the parking lot, you walk along a bike path to the house in 10 minutes. We recommend renting a boat in the village.
Nature and surroundings
This nature house is located on an island in the beautiful De Weerribben nature reserve, known for its extensive reed beds. It is one of the largest wetlands in Western Europe. Trees, water, birds and endless reed beds: nature in the Weerribben looks pristine. But appearances are deceptive, because every meter of soil is man-made. Over three centuries, the inhabitants dug up the peat to turn it into peat. Thus the shovel changed the landscape into a swampy marsh where strips of land and water alternate. In National Park Weerribben-Wieden you can walk, cycle and sail (for example with a whisper boat), but canoeing is the most beautiful. Between walls of reeds you paddle further and further into the greenery, you only hear the paddles gliding through the water and the songs of reed warblers hidden between the green reeds. Mute swans and purple herons fly through the air, splashing in the water could be an otter! The Weerribben seems to be one big green maze. Endless wandering is fine here, but nobody can get lost, because all the canals eventually always come back to the Kalenbergergracht, the wide waterway that for centuries was the traffic artery of the Weerribben. On weekends, many boats pass by, the Kalenbergergracht being the through route from Friesland to the Overijssel lakes.
