Nature house in Okkenbroek

In southwestern Overijssel lies Salland. The area between the Sallandse Heuvelrug and the IJssel. The old hanseatic city of Deventer forms the heart of the area. Just east of Deventer lies this beautiful estate. On this estate you will stay in this lovely nature house. Together with nature house 26102, these two houses the hunting lodge form one of the most beautiful estates of Overijssel. The house has been further expanded and modernized over the years. It is now a fully equipped house for up to ten guests. The modern and spacious kitchen is the connecting point to the newer part. Here there is another beautiful large living room where you can sit and eat at a long table. In spacious dining room, of course also with wood stove, you can enjoy your meals with the whole party overlooking the beautiful forests of the nearly 550-acre estate. French doors provide access to the terrace, the large woodland garden and the surrounding forests.

Until the 19th century, the area now where the nature house stands consisted largely of wild groves. The Hottinger map from about 1785 shows the area as the "Bathmenerheyde," an area not yet cultivated. IJssellandschap has two pillars in the area: agriculture and forestry. Based on species composition and age structure of the trees in the forest, wood is periodically harvested from the complex through forest management. Together with the Groot Salland Water Board and the Province of Overijssel, opportunities have been sought to give the natural qualities a positive impulse, this has resulted in excavations in the low parts which in turn have led to the development of special and rare plant species. It is a beautiful and open forest meadow where many natural values have developed. The area De Slenk is not open to the public but one can walk along it by means of a footpath which gives a good view of the open landscape.
