Nature house in Les Thons (Le Grand Thon)
Grand-Est, France
- 7 persons
- 3 bedrooms
- WiFi
- Pets allowed
This nature house consists of three former worker’s houses, leaning against the southside of the owner’s Vogezer farm. The rural hut overlooks the valley of a brook that meets with the Saône river 500 meters further down. Inside the home, you have room for seven people: two bedrooms for two persons, with connecting shower/bathroom, and one room for three people, without sanitation. There is also a possibility of renting an additional (connecting) room in the owner’s farm, with connecting shower and toilet. You would then be able to stay here with up to nine people. The kitchen is the central point of the cottage, from which all the rooms can be accessed. Adjacent to which you will find the library, with a cozy seating area and a workplace. There is an extensive collection of Dutch literature and detectives, but of course also tourist information about the area. The ‘La Terre’ bedroom on the ground floor has direct access to the terrace. The room also has a wash basin, shower, and toilet. On the first floor, you will find the ‘Le Ciel’ bedroom with a bathroom that has a shower, bath, washbasin, and toilet. The ‘Grenier’ bedroom is located on the other side and can be accessed by the vide. Outside you have a spacious terrace which you may use as well as a garden with Mirabelle trees among other things. This nature house can also be booked for four people at house code 26700.
Nature and surroundings
The village of Grand Thon is where you will find this nature house. It is located in the southwest of the Vosges department, in an area where a ‘parc Naturel regional’ is being established. It will ultimately cover the source areas of the Meuse and Saône, consisting of a variety of low hills, rippling streams, small-scale farming, and forests. It is an ideal hiking area, where the ‘Club Vosgien’ has already set out dozens of hiking trails. The area is also very suitable for biking and there are plenty of places where you can fish. The direct surroundings are rich in culture, with two medieval parish churches, a fifteenth-century monastery, and a sixteenth-century castle. These can all be visited. Many of the villages nearby also have a beautiful heritage which can be visited in the season, among others a ten-century church, Roman mosaics, and some museums. A restaurant can be found in the village itself (located in the medieval monastery). There are some other cozy restaurants in the surrounding area. During the summer, there are many brocantes, for those who are interested in old French items. The cities of Epinal and Langres are only an hour away, Nancy and Dijon are also recommended with a travel time of about two hours. Most people do not visit for the hustle and bustle, but to relax. As one guest once said, “It’s as if a blanket falls on you” as soon as you leave the car.
