On bicycle (two free bikes are available) you can explore the coulisse landscape of the Westerkwartier. Through the meadows further run many "wijken", wide ditches, which were created at the time of the peat excavation. There are several forests nearby, some within walking distance, and the Bakkeveen nature reserve is also nearby. Bakkeveen is just in Friesland and is characterized by its wooded banks and dobs, round lakes sometimes surrounded by a wall. Also striking is the diversity of the Bakkeveen nature reserve.
