Nature and surroundings
The nature house is located in the Markdal on the edge of the 500-year-old Mastbos. The area is ideal for various walking and cycling tours. By the association Markdal sustainable and vital, Staatsbosbeheer and others are many short and longer (junction) routes plotted in the area. The region, also known as the Barony of Breda, has the most beautiful and oldest forests in the area. The woods were laid out by 16th century city barons, with long avenues, heathland, fens and streams, and has a long history of princes, poachers and smugglers. Staatsbosbeheer writes: "In the quiet Chaamse Bossen deer graze and birds of prey fly over the tops of trees. The Liesbos is the largest summer oak forest in our country, with monumental lanes used by the nobility in the 17th century while hunting for herons. The Ulvenhoutse Bos is dotted with white wood anemones in spring. The showpiece is the Mastbos: a stately forest with long avenues, ponds, fens and 500-year-old trees. But the Barony does not consist of forests alone. Between the trees you will also find moors, peat bogs and old clay pits, such as in the forestry Dorst. And along the meandering Mark it is great for walking and cycling, or enjoying a summer picnic." Canoeing is possible on the river Mark. There are also plenty of equestrian routes in the area. Within walking distance are the few catering establishments.
