The nature house was built in 1875 as a workshop for the wheel-maker: the carpenter who made wheels from the sturdy oak wood from the immediate area. The cottage was converted into a comfortable vacation home a few years ago, without losing its original character: the thick walls, the windows all around, the open staircase upstairs.... The central room has a kitchenette with extractor fan and induction hob and a spacious sitting and dining area. The couch can also be used as a sofa bed in the evening. . Upstairs is a bedroom with two single beds. A bathroom with shower, toilet and sink is attached to the rear of the cottage and directly accessible from the central area. Numerous sustainable applications can be found on the property: solar panels, helophyte filter, wood chip central heating and a very sustainably converted course room.
Nature and surroundings
The nature house is part of a center for learning about sustainability in practice. Nature lovers can indulge themselves here on the two-acre property with large organic vegetable garden, herb garden, food forest, orchard with forgotten fruit varieties and numerous sustainable uses on the property. It is wonderfully quiet and dark here in the evening and at night. During the day also very quiet due to its location outside the hamlet and the large garden and orchard, food forest and meadow. Winterswijk is a fantastic cycling and hiking area with many cycling and hiking trails (many dirt roads with slightly paved bike paths along them.
