On open water lies this beautiful, national monumental farm from 1855 with a beautiful guest house on the second floor. A unique place with lots of character. Quietly located and yet on the outskirts of the village of Hitzum. In this nature house you can really enjoy the tranquility and the beautiful rural views. Relax in the garden and surroundings. On summer evenings you can use the terrace stove! From here you can make beautiful walks and bike rides. The landlords provide two city bikes free of charge. Tour bikes can be rented in the vicinity. The village of Hitzum is located exactly between two of the Frisian Eleven Cities: the historic city of Franeker and the coastal city of Harlingen with its beautiful, old center. From Harlingen you can also take the ferry for a day on the island of Terschelling or Vlieland. If you love animals, then you will be right at home here! The landlords have two sweet, enthusiastic dogs, a cat, chickens, ponies and horses. If you like it, you can get in touch with these. Horseback riding lessons or outside rides are provided for guests. Within walking distance is a nice playground, bocce court, tea garden, orchard with sheep pasture and boat rental.
Nature and surroundings
This environment is the gateway to the Wadden landscape. An open landscape that has been cultivated by human hands over the centuries. The sea has been tamed, but the former dynamics of this environment can still be experienced. Dikes, mounds, polders and salt marsh ridges are visible in the land. Enjoy the impressive views, the Wadden dike on the horizon and unwind. In this region you will find important nesting areas for both mudflats and meadow birds. In spring there are plenty of black-tailed godwits, redshanks, oystercatchers and lapwings. The common tern and waders such as the little plover and the avocet also populate wet meadows in large numbers. In the fall, the peregrine falcon hunts wigeons and golden plovers. The white-fronted goose and barnacle goose know the area well in winter. From the garden or the window you can see the large, imposing marsh harrier hunting over the meadows for mice and rabbits. Hares are regularly seen dancing through the meadows. Sparrows and great titmice nest here under the roof tiles and nest in the hawthorn hedge. You will also find woodpeckers, herons, ducks and woodpigeons around the farm. This region is therefore a true bird paradise all year round.
