The nature house stands on the river Bode in the Harz. At an altitude of 385 meters, the house is located in a valley where the small village of Neuwerk with 120 inhabitants lies. The house is surrounded by forests and is located on several hiking trails, such as the long-distance trail "the Hexenstieg". It is an almost 300 year old half-timbered house with a spacious garden which also contains the manager's bungalow. In the garden is a covered barbecue area and a playhouse for children. There are several terraces, so you can always choose between sun or shade. On the first floor there are several areas to stay; there is a living room, dining room and a television room, so that if the group is large, people can always find a quiet place. Within walking distance of the house you will find a mountain lake (the Blaue See), a natural swimming pool (mineral water and not chlorinated) and two accessible caves (Hermannshöhle and Baumanshöhle). In Wernigerode there is a fantastic indoor pool at the Hasseröde Ferienpark (20 kilometers). Within a radius of 25 kilometers there are very many day trips possible.

The Harz, a part of Saxony Anhalt, is a central mountain range with the highest peak being the Brocken (1134 meters). On the adjacent Wurmberg is a nice ski area. The forests consist mainly of softwood, but there are also beautiful parts with beech trees. There is a lot of wildlife. Wild boar walk 100 meters from the house at night, if you are lucky you can hear the deer in October, there are raccoons and around 80 lynxes live in the Harz. The river Bode provides a soothing constant sound of running water. The river holds trout and you can see fly fishermen fishing.
