Nature and surroundings
The Sint-Pietersberg, on the border of Flanders, Wallonia and the Netherlands, is known for picturesque villages, forts and castles, an eventful history and an exceptional nature. Castle, hills, forests, marl quarries and corridors are the elements of your discovery of the Sint-Pietersberg, in the province of Limburg. The Plateau of Caestert and the Tiendeberg are both known for their fauna and flora that you will find nowhere else in Flanders. The slope forests are home to several vulnerable badger setts, but the plateau is also an ideal habitat for other mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and insects, including many rare butterflies. A beautiful area of peace and quiet that is also not to be missed is the Oehoe Valley, a place with steep marl walls where Europe's largest owl lives. From the "kiekoet" (= lookout) you have a unique view of this valley and the animals and plants that live and grow there. Look, enjoy and experience the beauty and tranquility of this unique piece of borderland! Due to its central location, cities such as Maastricht, Aachen and Liege are also within easy reach. In short, who chooses peace and quiet and diversity, chooses the green heart of the Euroregion.
