The Fersental Valley is located around 25 kilometers east of the provincial capital of Trento. The valley is framed by the Lagorai Mountains, the longest continuous mountain range in Trentino at 70 kilometers as the crow flies. The valley is known for its old Bavarian dialect, its rich flora and fauna, its traditional inhabitants and its pleasant climate. In three municipalities in the valley, the dialect language, Bersntoleric, a protected minority language that has remained unchanged for over 700 years, is still spoken by around 800 people.
