Because the floor is 1.5 meters higher than the surrounding ground level, you experience the special effect of 'floating in the landscape'. The outdoor terrace is also constructed at that height and reinforces this feeling. The Straw Wagon is built on an undercarriage previously used for straw transportation. The straw packs all around somewhat disguise the fact that it can be spent the night inside, as it looks like an ordinary farm wagon in a farmyard. The surprise is precisely in the inside and, of course, the great view! Our farmhouse is located 50 meters from the Dokkumer Ee and is situated between the village of Wyns and Bartlehiem, of course known for the little bridge and the Elfstedentocht, in an area where it is still dark at night and peace is still normal.In Wyns itself, opposite the historic church, there is an eatery (De Winze), with a terrace on the water. For children there is a playground in the village. A ferry makes it possible in summer to explore the western side of the Dokkumer Ee (walking or cycling). Many bicycle routes in the area. Bicycles can be rented at bicycle store Joustra in Aldtsjerk. On request he will pick up and bring your bikes to/from Gastopstal. Wadden Sea and Lauwersmeer area are easily accessible from Wyns. A day trip to Ameland - only 45 minutes by boat - is also a fun experience. Of course, nearby are also Dokkum and Leeuwarden, towns worth seeing with the necessary museums and nice stores and eateries. For children Aqua Zoo in Leeuwarden is very nice.
