" ...Here it is still really quiet......" In the wooded hills of National Park Utrechtse Heuvelrug near the town of Leersum, lies a former estate. The entrance to the vast forests of the Darthuizerberg is an experience in itself and there, at the end of the semi-paved forest avenue, amid the woods of the nature reserve, stands the Lodge. The Lodge gives the real feel of the outdoors. It overlooks the pasture with horses amidst the beautiful woods. The area offers endless opportunities for hiking and biking. The nature house is equipped with every luxury and comfort and gives the opportunity to relax. In addition, you can enjoy a good night's sleep in beds from Royal Auping. In the vicinity there are numerous attractions: the nature reserve is rich in ancient estates and castles and also offers children many activities.
Nature and surroundings
National Park Utrechtse Heuvelrug is one of 21 national parks in the Netherlands and is the second largest forest area in the Netherlands. "150,000 Years ago, ice and water pushed up masses of earth and stones, forming a ridge in the middle of the Netherlands. On this ridge you are standing in the largest forest in the Randstad and overlooking the river landscape. Here history is palpable everywhere. Because of the many estates and castles but also because of the great military significance the area has had. Because of its location and beauty, the Utrechtse Heuvelrug has for centuries been a place where people come to rest and get new energy. Rich city dwellers built their estates here for a reason; close to the city but still in the middle of nature. Here history is cherished while at the same time everyone can experience the ridge in their own way.
