The region is known for its beautiful beaches, perfect for surfing and/or other recreational activities. There are fantastic restaurants serving fresh fish and local seafood. The people are very friendly and the place is ideal for relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty of Portugal's west coast. Two kilometers north is Praia da Areia Branca, a small seaside resort, where it is pleasantly busy in summer, but where there is also plenty to do in winter. The beach Praia do Areal and the terraces on the pedestrian promenade of Passeio do Mar are easily accessible on foot (through the beautiful dune area). To the south is Praia da Peralta.
