Nature and surroundings
The hamlet of Keent was on the bank of Gelderland until the canalization of the Meuse River in 1938. In 1958 Keent became Brabant territory and is now the eastern tip of municipality of Oss. The old riverbed of Keent was partially excavated and reconnected to the Meuse. Keent is an island surrounded by nature and high water. The Oude Maasarm Keent contains a wide water channel amidst riparian forests, thickets, marshes, stream valley grasslands and various recreational facilities. The Oude Maasarm Keent includes 330 hectares of new exciting nature and a pleasant environment for living and nature-oriented recreation with connection to long-distance hiking trails and bicycle routes . Several animal and plant species already live in Keent: among others, roe deer, hare, fox, pheasant, badger, kestrel, buzzard, grey and egrets, short-eared owl, little owl and tawny owl, bluethroat, penduline tit, Rapunzel chickadee, grass chickadee and yes, even beavers, black storks and grey harriers have already passed by!
