The charming rural village of Zandvoorde is located near Ypres and Passchendaele. Our building has served as a blacksmith shop for years. The smithy has not been lit since the late 1980s... Nevertheless, our building remains known to the local population as the 'old smithy'... The smithy was recently renovated by us into a comfortable holiday home. The interior is a combination of old craft and nostalgia.
Nature and surroundings
The Zandvoordebos is within walking distance and is part of the Gasthuisbos. It was during the Middle Ages that various almshouses in the region of Ypres received a lot of forest land as a gift. It was completely destroyed during the First World War. They are now in the possession of the OCMW. Every season creates a magical atmosphere in these forests. The village fulfilled an important strategic position due to its higher location on the Central West Flemish Heuvelrug. The unique view of the area, in combination with the German defense line, ensured that Zandvoorde could only be liberated during the Final Offensive in 1918.
