On the border of Friesland and Drenthe, near Drents Friese Wold, Fochteloerveen and UNESCO world heritage prison village Veenhuizen. Our chalet called TOLVE is located on a quiet small vacation park in Oosterwolde. The cottage includes four bicycles (2 women's and 2 men's bikes) which you may use for free. The cozy chalet is suitable for up to 4 persons and is fully equipped, including dishwasher, oven, 4 burner stove, fridge freezer and washing machine. In the chalet you will find hiking and cycling routes and plenty of information about the area. The vacation park is easily accessible by public transportation, at the entrance of the park is a bus stop.
Nature and surroundings
The chalet is located near beautiful nature reserves. Along the park runs a road to a unique piece of untouched nature reserve the Fochteloërveen the size of 2500 hectares with many cycling and walking routes and beautiful watchtowers. It is one of the last high moors in Europe and home to the majestic crane. The cottage is also near Appelscha and the famous National Park Drents-Friese Wold, best known for the Aekingerzand, popularly known as "The Bald Dunes. For culture, the historic prison village of Veenhuizen, about 3 km away, is a must. Dive back in time and visit the impressive prison museum, take a ride in the prison bus or stroll through the old village past the stately buildings. Veenhuizen is part of the Colonies of Weldadigheid, which recently received UNESCO World Heritage status. A unique place and definitely worth a visit.
