This nature house is a former one-room schoolhouse in the village of Pé da Serra. The classroom has been converted into a loft. Spacious with a large table, bed with mosquito net, spacious closets, a sofa and a wood stove. It has 2 large windows and French doors on the east-south side to a spacious veranda. There you can relax in the morning sun with a view of the valley and the village. In the former hallway/corridor a kitchen has been built with pantry and storage, the bathroom and toilet. Old details are still visible in a new jacket. There has been sustainable renovation in which many materials have been reused. From the kitchen you can go through French doors to a shaded terrace where you can cook in a handmade pizza oven from local clay. Behind the garden with herbs and flowers is the outdoor shower with solar heated water and valley view. Next to the school is ample parking and two large cypress trees provide shade with views of the village and Mount Moradal. A car is a plus.
Nature and surroundings
Down in the valley where there is a small stream babbling, fruit trees, a water mine and a basin to cool the feet is also space for gardening. In the village itself there is also a small river and nearby there are several opportunities to take a dip. The Beira Baixo area is becoming increasingly well known. It is still unspoiled and characterized by mountains, large rocks and rivers. The vegetation consists mostly of eucalyptus, olives, cork and pines and in each village you can enjoy the vegetable gardens. The famous xisto villages are plentiful here. The area has many hiking trails through a diverse landscape. An hour's drive from the residence is the Serra da Estrela nature reserve. Groceries can be done in Grade, 8 minutes away where there is also a pump and cafe. For large supermarkets and (vega) restaurants it is a half hour drive to the city of Castelo Branco via the river Ocreza. Castelo has museums and the Barrocal park with the big boulders.
