Nature and surroundings

Our house is built with natural materials: straw bales, local clay plaster, native lumber. We generate our own electricity, use sterilized rainwater, grow our own vegetables and fruit, and travel by electric vehicle. The surrounding woods offer many opportunities for walking and cycling. The Lesse and Semois rivers are nearby, and you can visit the Musée du Sabot de Porcheresse, the Mudia Museum in Redu (12 km), the museums and castle of Bouillon (25km), take a walk along the Lesse or Semois rivers, or go kayaking.... Numerous restaurants and tourist facilities in the area.

It was cozy, cute cottage, primitive, all the basics present. Nice reception. Came at rest, even if it was a bit noisy when traffic came by. From there 25.min drive for canoeing on the Semois or trying beautiful hiking trails. Good to do. Wood stove present, very cozy, have to figure out how it stays on without your house full of smoke. We were with 2 people, enough space. 2x double bed available. 1 are on a loft. You need a wooden staircase.

The vacation accommodation is part of the hosts' home, with whom you share a common entrance, but the living area with a simple but well-equipped kitchen, dining table and two wicker armchairs as well as the bedroom with shower and toilet and a small loft with another sleeping area are completely separated from the hosts' living area. Both respected our privacy at all times, but provided us with important tips at the beginning, especially regarding shopping. A small cozy sofa would have been nice for the evenings, but it was fine as it was. The cottage itself was built using only natural materials. We found the smell of the clay plaster in particular very pleasant, as it brought back memories of our grandparents' half-timbered houses. We would have liked the internet to have been more reliable.

Porcheresse is a rather small village in the middle of the Belgian-Luxembourg Ardennes, and Josiane and Luc's home is also on the edge of the village. We particularly enjoyed the incredible peace and quiet. And although at least one of us comes from a small village ourselves, we agreed that we enjoyed a whole lot more of it here in Porcheresse. This was partly due to the fact that there is no TV and the internet speed is rather slow. This really slowed down our lives during our stay. The home of our hosts also has a beautiful, natural garden, which you can also use if you wish, at the express request of the two of them. Porcheresse is highly recommended as a starting point or retreat for hiking tours in the surrounding area. The hiking paradise in the Semois valley is particularly easy to reach, but you usually need a car.

These people are doing very well in terms of sustainability. Immediately after entering pay attention to a low doorway. Otherwise a fine independent space to stay in, cook etc.

The immediate surroundings of the village are mostly agricultural, but there are still nice species to discover if you have an eye for them. In the garden are insect hotels. A little further from the village you will find forests and the river Lesse and there is much to do there. Hiking maps are available.
