Note: Been there before? Facilities are different as of July 2024. Read well Simple but spacious hiker's hut (one room), at the back of our large nature preserve (200m from the public road). For those who love back-to-basic. A place to enjoy nature. Under the trees, on a field with nature-rich pond. In the evening you warm yourself by the fire bowl and if it's chilly inside you fire up the wood stove a bit. Good to know: - the cabin has cold water (solar shower bag available), electricity (kettle, coffee maker and electric cooler available), two beds, a double sofa bed and a natural toilet behind the cabin; - useful that you know how a wood stove works. Wood is included in the price, you get this yourself from the woodpile and cut/saw it smaller if needed; - parking is 150m from the cottage, wheelbarrows available. Bicycles can be taken to the cottage; - this place is not suitable for people who have difficulty walking; - the site is adjacent to a railroad line;
Nature and surroundings
Our grounds are one acre and mostly natural. You therefore have nature right around you. With a little luck you will get a visit from hedgehogs, hares or a roe deer. You will see many birds such as tits and goldfinches, as well as buzzard, sparrow hawk and hawk, and be sure not to miss the kingfisher flying by. At night you can hear owls and sometimes a marten walks across the roof or you can hear the rattle of a wood mouse. Oeken is situated between the IJssel and the Veluwe. An excellent environment for cycling, but there are also several hiking trails in the area. For example, visit Landgoed Voorstonden, the Leusveld or the Empese and Tondense heaths. A little further away is National Park Veluwezoom. At 5 kilometers is Hanseatic city Zutphen and from Brummen you can cross by ferry to the atmospheric smallest town Bronckhorst.
