On the ancient dirt road Mûntsegroppe (Monnikengreppel), hidden between the tree walls of the protected landscape of the Northern Frisian Woods, lies the paradise of Joke and Marius and their dogs Sam and Sara. On an area of no less than 5000m2 of nature and tranquility. Here you can relax in a private park where (predatory) birds, hares, deer and hedgehogs also feel at home. The chalet has a living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. In the kitchen you can cook on a 4-burner induction hob. A microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and airfryer are available. Centrally located with quick access to Drachten in 15 minutes and Groningen, Heerenveen and Leeuwarden just half an hour away. Within 10 minutes you are in Surhuisterveen. A village with a center function given the wide range of stores and opportunities to have a fork in the road.
Nature and surroundings
On this dirt path, in years gone by a connecting route between monasteries in the area, you will find the charm of yesteryear. The path already appears on maps from 1540. While walking you will spot deer and hares, a variety of (predatory) birds and you will see cows with their calves grazing in the meadows. The Mûntsegroppe is nowadays well passable for cyclists. Connected to the Knooppuntenroute you can make wonderful bike tours in the area. The landscape is characterized by small meadows, old paths but especially by pingo ruins and beautifully intact wooded banks and alder lines. Within walking distance is the Open Air Museum & Theme Park De Spitkeet, where you experience how the people here used to live in pure poverty. People who sometimes literally gnawed away hunger in their plaggenhut/spitkeet. A visit to this museum takes you back to the time of the poor, but oh so proud Frisian.
