The house dates from 1903 and has recently been completely renovated and modernized making it a spacious, comfortable and barrier-free home. The house is very quietly located in a dead-end street and ideally suited for those seeking peace and quiet and space as well as luxury and convenience. From early spring to late autumn it is always pleasant "outdoor life" in our greenhouse. From Friday, January 12, 2024, NPO 2 will screen the four-part documentary series "The earth trembles. The Schouwerzijl House was the base of operations for the presenter of this series for two months and will also be featured in between.
Nature and surroundings
Beautifully situated on the Reitdiep and the Kromme Raken, between Groot Maarslag, Schaphalsterzijl and Schouwen, lies Schouwerzijl. With over 90 inhabitants, it is a small, friendly village on the Hogeland of Groningen. With a harbor, a zijl(lock), a village vegetable garden and orchard, a jetty for passers-by, a playground and a swimming raft. But above all with lots of peace, space and views. You are in the middle of an ideal cycling, sailing and hiking area. The Pieterpad runs practically along here. Be surprised by old Groningen villages and their centuries-old churches built on mounds. Nearby are Winsum, the Houwerzijl tea factory and the fishing village of Zoutkamp, among others. The borg Verhildersum in Leens is also worth a visit. The Lauwersmeer National Park is a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers. And a day on Schiermonnikoog, a trip with the Reitdiepveer, a mudflat hiking trip from Pieterburen or a visit to the vibrant city of Groningen are highly recommended.
