This farm is located in the quiet mound village of Piaam just behind the old sea dike between Makkum (2 km) and Workum (8 km). The centuries old 'pleats' has a special atmosphere and an incredibly beautiful view. The farmhouse is very suitable for business groups or family weekends (NOT for partying groups of friends due to nuisance). It is possible for up to 20 people to sleep in 9 bedrooms (possibly expanding to 10 rooms for 22 people), 4 of which have private bathrooms, the others with shared luxury sanitary facilities. There is also a sauna. Downstairs there is a spacious cozy living room in the stable and a comfortable farmers' kitchen overlooking the large barn. Both the stable and the barn have French doors to terraces surrounding the farm with a flower meadow and orchard. The whole place is heated sustainably. In the restoration of the national monument as much as possible was used recycled and sustainable materials from the environment.
Nature and surroundings
The grounds around the farm have been redeveloped. There is a mound meadow with native wildflowers and shrubs to promote biodiversity. Because of its location next to a Natura 2000 bird area, it is especially important to pay attention to promoting insect populations. Every autumn hundreds of thousands of geese fly over Piaam towards the south. They spend the night on the fields surrounding the mound village. The outer dike nature reserves in the IJsselmeer just across the dike near Piaam are a well-known spot for bird watchers. Just across the dike near Piaam is the Ral Bird Viewing Hut, named after the water bird. The bird hide offers views of reed marsh, the IJsselmeer and the shallow water of the Piaam channel. The nature house is located in the protected reclamation area of two 17th-century duck decoys. These duck decoys used to be the property of the decoyman, who caught ducks here to sell as delicacies. The Buismanskoai can be visited with a guide from It Fryske Gea.
