Stay in the Alde Feanen nature reserve, in the outskirts of the village of Earnewald (Eernewoude). Explore the National Park on foot (July 1-April 1) or by Canadian canoe (year-round, use included). Located in the middle of the ferry (bicycle) route. Wake to the sounds of geese flying overhead, fall asleep to the sounds of crickets and frogs. Enjoying dancing birds in the sky. Gorgeous skies and overwhelming sunsets. It is all possible. The living enjoyment we experience, the peace, quiet and tranquility with which we sink into the peat soil is something we wish for everyone. "We" are Klaas van der Veen and Harriëtte Modderman. Nature and surroundings
The Alde Feanen consists of a varied low moorland swamp with lakes, peat pools, cap holes, quaking bogs, peat moss reedbeds, bluegrasslands, reedbeds, kingcup hay meadows and marsh forests. More than 500 species of higher plants are found, including several species of sedges and orchids. More than 100 different species of birds nest. In winter, large numbers of geese, ducks and waders roost in the area. In early spring you will find several tens of thousands of waders such as ruff, black-tailed godwit and the curlew migrating through. National Park De Alde Feanen (meaning: "The Old Fens", Frisian: Nasjonaal Park De Alde Feanen) is located in the province of Friesland, around the village of Earnewâld. The national park has an area of nearly 4,000 ha. This makes it the largest contiguous nature reserve on the mainland of the province of Friesland. Less than 50 meters from your accommodation. You can walk straight into the nature reserve. By canoe or supboard, nature is even closer.
