This part of Auvergne, on the border of the Puy-de-Dôme and Allier has many surprises in a pleasant climate without mass tourism. Dormant volcanoes, a rugged gorge, steep slopes, castles, rivers and a forest full of fresh food. In the lively Bellenaves you will find basic services such as bakeries, an épicerie and pharmacy and it is easily accessible with a train station at 2km. If you come by car we recommend the Route des Arbres (former Route Nationale) via Saint-Pourcain-sur-Sioule. Cities such as Clermont-Ferrand, Moulins and Vichy can be reached within an hour by train or car. Nearby you will find varied attractions such as a vélorail over France's highest railroad bridge, a climbing park 10 minutes away and a hiking or train ride to the top of the Puy de Dome. You can swim and canoe in the Sioule River, in the various plan d'eau's or try the volcanic lake Gour de Tazenat. Just over an hour away you will find the Massif du Sancy with impressive rocky points at 1,800m.
