Away from the crowds to unwind in Gaasterland, Friesland? The Bakhuisje or "simmerwenning" as they call it in Friesland, is connected to our monumental head-hull farmhouse but completely free to reach. At the rear you have an unobstructed view over the fields and you have a lovely terrace. The cottage is in 2024 on the inside almost completely renovated and insulated. You enter a living-dining room with new kitchen with dishwasher, large fridge with freezer and an induction stove. Downstairs there is a bedroom with a comfortable twin bed and closet space. There is also a bathroom with toilet, bathtub, separate shower and sink. Upstairs there is a small but very cozy bedroom with two single beds. On the first floor there is also a combined washer and dryer, but the stairs are steep so less suitable for people with mobility problems.
Nature and surroundings
Nijemirdum is located in the Frisian Gaasterland which is characterized by a rolling landscape on the IJsselmeer with forests and fields. Nearby the Frisian lakes, with many nice authentic (Elfsteden) places like Sloten, Balk, Hindeloopen and Stavoren. The nearest town is Oudemirdum (2 km) with a cozy Brink where a number of restaurants, a bakery, butcher and a small supermarket can be found. Also the tourist office Mar and Klif is worth a visit with a nice museum about the area. In terms of nature there is much to see; for example, take a nice walk in the nearby Lycklama forest where you might even spot the Spotted Flycatcher or the Hawfinch. Near Nijemirdum are a number of badger setts and in Koudum is a nest where in the spring Bald eagles breed. The IJsselmeer coast is beautiful with small beaches and real cliffs. Closer to Bakhuisje you can enjoy the view of the vast meadows with meadow birds and grazing cows.
