Nature and surroundings
Nature reserve, right along the Meuse River. Many beautiful hiking and biking routes available. The hiking area Aldeneik has a rich cultural history. Around the Heerenlaakplas you can stroll along the water. This area was redeveloped after de-grassing in 2002 into a landscape with park-like allure with paved paths. Two campsites and a marina with a sandy beach were built on the peninsula. In the walking area of Aldeneik, you can also walk along the Labaerdijk in Maaseik with a view of the Meuse, or enjoy the tranquility of the meadows of the pilgrimage village of Heppeneert. The ancient meadows of this hamlet are the best preserved floodplains along the Meuse in terms of relief and plot layout. Do you like it a little wilder? Then nature reserve De Rug, just across the border in Roosteren (NL) is a must.
