Nature and surroundings
In the vicinity of Steenbergen there are several nature reserves. The area outside the dikes is characterized by relatively large differences in height at short distances between mudflats and salt marshes and the presence of creeks. This makes the area suitable as a breeding ground for a multitude of salt and brackish water plants. The specific environment and the relative peace and quiet also make the area suitable as a breeding, resting and foraging place for various species of birds. The area has limited free access, only on the designated path and in the designated season. This area is also a Nature Monument and an International Wetland. Around the nature house there are many other nature areas, such as the Steenbergse Vliet, the creeks Roode Weelcomplex, the nature area Gastelsveer and the nature area Oost-Graaf Hendrikpolder
