A rustic oasis in the heart of an estuary landscape, between Lagos and Portimão, perfect for a glamping retreat in a serene, minimalist setting. Lovingly restored, this charming private cottage is nestled within a protected nature reserve and waterfowl breeding area, where a rich variety of species can be observed, much to the delight of birdwatchers. Suitable for two guests. Features a simple double bed, a spacious and bright living area, a desk, and internet access via a Vodafone hotspot. Amenities include a fireplace, mini fridge, electric oven, and a small bathroom with a shower. Outside, there is an open-air kitchen with a two-burner gas stove and a generous terrace with a grapevine-covered pergola, surrounded by a natural garden. Booking period: Minimum one week. When the air turns cold and damp, the space is warmed by a cosy traditional wood-burning fireplace. We’ll prepare the first fire; after that, firewood can be purchased nearby or provided upon request.
Nature and surroundings
This hideaway is located about 15 minutes on foot from the Ria de Alvor, where you can enjoy scenic strolls, bathe in the lagoon, practice birdwatching, fish, collect shellfish, or go kitesurfing. Just 2.5 km down a dirt road lies the village of Mexilhoeira Grande, offering supermarkets with fresh produce and fish, a local butcher, a variety of restaurants, a pharmacy, and a bank. At the end of the dirt road (2 km) lies the Mexilhoeira Grande train station, with direct connections to Lagos (10 km), Portimão (5 km), and Lisbon. Parking is available directly on the property, and the nearest beaches are just a 10-minute drive away. What connects us is a sensitive relationship with nature. In every season, we appreciate something special: A warming fireplace on winter evenings, the almond blossoms that announce spring, a refreshing swim under the ever-clear skies of summer, and in the golden autumn, the mesmerising formations of migratory birds preparing for their journey to Africa.
