Cottages in Evia
Greece is one of the most popular destinations in Europe. Its many islands are a hotspot for travelers from all over the world! While some While islands such as Crete and Mykonos are usually preferred, less known islands turn into a paradise of relaxation and draw a different type of tourists – the nature enthusiasts.
Cottages are lovely nature houses which allow guests to reconnect with nature and themselves while enjoying their time. The cottages we offer, situated on the Evia island, welcome guests in a traditional Greek setting, ensuring the highest level of comfort and satisfaction! The hosts are very nice and friendly and would love to give you advice on what to see on the island. Pack the bags and choose Evia as your next adventure.
The nature of Evia Island
Evia or also known as Euboea is the second largest island after Crete. The island has a long and narrow shape which is cut through its length by a mountain range. An interesting fact about the island is that it is believed that Evia separated from the mainland after an earthquake centuries ago.
Mount Dirfis is the main mountain of the island, occupying most of its central parts together with Mount Olympus. This mountain is a heaven of vegetation – it is covered in pines, chestnuts, oaks, firs, etc. The fauna is also diverse and thriving. The Steni forest is a must see – the Aesthetic Forest of Steni. It is located near the town of Steni and it is believed to be one of the richest forests in this part of Europe. Rivers and streams cross the forest and the mountain, fed by the unusual number of streams. Fun fact: during the winter, snow falls and forms a cap on top of the mountain. Yes, Greece has snow, too.
If the beaches are not enough for you, you can always check out one of the two lakes on the Evia Island – Dystos and Kanatadika. The latter forms a lagoon, therefore a beautiful landscape of reeds, marshes and water lilies.
Activities you should try
There is so much to do on the island of Evia. Hiking, of course, is one of the best ways to explore nature. For example, you can hike Ancient Kirinthos. This is in the northern part of the island where the mountains, the cascading waterfalls and the pine forests meet the blue Aegean waters and the Northern Evoikos Gulf.
Another amazing hiking experience in the central parts of Evia is the Xerovouni hike. Xerovouni is a mountain of limestone covered in lush forests!
As we mentioned, Evia is mountainous and has a lot of rivers. This should already ring a bell that there are many canyons. Canyoning is a cultural aspect of life on the island. The possibilities are endless – Dipotama canyon in the south, Havos Gorge or Manikia in the central parts. The most interesting experience is the possibility to go on an organized canyon experience through the Havos Gorge at night!
