Cottages Julian Alps
The Alps are a mountain range in Europe, which comprises many smaller mountains. One such example is the Julian Alps. It occupies the southeast parts of the Alps, which falls into two countries – Italy and Slovenia. They are named after the Roman emperor Julius Caesar.
We offer cottages located in or near the Julian Alps area. Their hosts are locals ready to tell you everything you want to know about the local history and culture. Their cottages are always finished in a traditional Alpine stay to create an authentic atmosphere and make you feel your best while on a vacation here. Moreover, the hosts are your best guide in terms of “hidden gems” in the area! Take their advice and also get to know them, if you want to understand the French culture of this region! The Julian Alps are an amazing destination throughout the whole year. Nature enthusiasts love the range as it provides a diversity in terms of activities and makes up for a fun and adventurous holiday.
Discover the nature
The Eastern Julian Alps are home to some of the highest peaks in the Alps, with many having an altitude of more than 2,000m. Triglav is the highest point here – 2,864m. This peak is part of the Triglav National Park of Slovenia. As you may have guessed already, the high peaks are crossed by breathtaking roads and stunning passes. The Vršič Pass, for instance, is 1,611 m above the sea and links Sava and Soča valleys; it is also the highest pass in Slovenia. The Predil Pass also provides amazing views and serves as a boundary between the Eastern and Western Julians.
In the Western part of the range, which is also considerably smaller than the eastern, there are also many high peaks, mostly located in Italy. On the Italian side there is a nature park (Prealpi Giulie) established in 1996, which includes parts of mountain chains Monte Plauris, Monti Musi and Monte Canin. The park also includes the Val Alba Nature Reserve. The area of the reserve has a unique environmental, historical and cultural significance, thus its protected territory status. Some of the interesting places to visit here are the basin of river Fella, the origin of the Alba stream, or the Cjasut dal Sior viewpoint balcony.
Activities
Triglav National Park is famous among hikers. The Triglavska Bistrica Trail runs along a river of the same name and will take you to the Vrata Valley. This is the most interesting part of the valley, which is part of many legends and mysteries. You can hike to the Peričnik Fall and admire the force of Mother Nature.
Cycling here is also an amazing way to see most of the area. There is a picturesque route around the Julian Alps, which allows you to explore all of the hidden gems! During the winter, of course, you should definitely try the ski and cross-country ski paths.
If adrenaline is something you definitely seek on a trip, the Julian Alps have a lot of it, too! Rafting, paragliding, canyoning, canoeing or kayaking are just some of the numerous activities you can indulge in!
