Finca Madrid

Madrid is the capital of Spain and one of the most populous and largest cities in Europe. The city lies on the riverbank of Manzanares and is the “capital” of tourism by housing the United Nations’ World Tourism Organization. Except for its obvious importance for the world, this city is ready to surprise you with remarkable culture and a nature otherwise not so typical for a city of this caliber. Madrid is located very close to the Guadarrama mountain range.

A finca is a traditional Spanish estate, usually with a cottage or a farmhouse on its premises. The fincas are located on an orchard, vineyard or another type of plantation and are secluded from any towns or villages nearby. For the purpose of tourism many fincas have become extremely popular among tourists seeking a more traditional type of accommodation on their trip to Spain.

A capital which amazes you with nature

Everybody knows how remarkable Madrid is in terms of its history and culture. When people think of Madrid, they imagine tapas, wine, and centuries old buildings. People rarely go to Madrid for its nature and they seem to prefer more distant and rural areas. Nevertheless, those who search will find, and to admire nature you don’t have to go very far from one of the biggest capitals in Spain.

The Parque Natural de Peñalara provides a completely different atmosphere which will probably make you forget about the city at all. Meadows, pine forests and lakes await visitors on a beautiful day of hiking.

Northeast of Madrid you will find Patones – a small village with just 500 citizens on the hills of Pico del Lobo mountain. This village and its surrounding area have been pronounced as one of the most picturesque places in the “Comunidad”. You can explore this beautiful town, take a hike to the peak of Cancho de la Cabeza, and admire the views of the turquoise water reservoirs below the summit.

Activities

Did you know that Madrid has a wide variety of bush and tree species, all of which you can get acquainted with in the Senda Ecologica de Canencia – a trail through a natural botanical garden. The route goes for almost 7 km through the most charming autumn landscape with numerous small springs and waterfalls, which create a refreshing atmosphere in between the trees.

Of course, if you prefer to stay inside the city walls, there are many options for that as well. Except for walking or enjoying a day in one of the capital’s parks, there is also a cycle path which crosses all of them. The city is full of big and small green spaces and you can check all of them out on a day full of discoveries. Don’t miss the El Retiro – locals’ favorite park, as well as Casa de Campo which delivers a more natural atmosphere and is also the largest in town.

For the more adventurous, La Pedriza is a popular hiking and rock-climbing spot near Spain, which is accessible also by an intercity bus. Except for these adrenaline-boosting sports, there are plenty of hiking and trekking options for a more laid-back experience.
