For nature lovers, hikers and cyclists, this nature house is the ideal starting point for surprising discoveries. Within ten minutes you are at the edge of the National Park Dwingelderveld. The large quiet Dwingeloose Heide stretches out before you! Within cycling distance several national parks and typical Drenthe villages such as Vledder, Diever, Dwingeloo, Havelte and Ruinen. Villages with a rich history and tradition. In the vast forests are miles of well-maintained hiking and biking trails. On the heath you can encounter the wandering shepherd with his flock and a sudden encounter with a deer and her young makes your day very special. The Visitor Center on the edge of the heath is well worth a visit. A lot of information is available there about everything that lives and flourishes in the area. Throughout the year there are interesting exhibitions and educational activities for young and old. Nearby are the heated outdoor pool and in the village of Ruinen, four kilometers from the nature house, is a supermarket and a bakery with delicious tasty bread specialties, such as the "Halve Gare".
