Next to the landlords' farm was a detached, authentic boiler room. In the cookhouse, harvested vegetables and fruits used to be cooked and pickled. The landlords have completely renovated this old cookhouse, in the authentic Drenthe style and in the same location, detached next to the farm. The cookhouse is now used as an attractive nature house.

Hoogveenreservaat Bargerveen gives a good impression of what Eastern Netherlands used to look like: swamp, grassland, heath and water alternate. Now it is one of the few remaining raised bog areas in the Netherlands. Thanks to its unique character, the area is a haven for many rare plants and animals. Fortunately, the raised bog reserve has also been made accessible to hikers. Several hiking trails have been set out by the Forestry Commission. Hiking trails run through peatlands, on which you can experience the springy action of the peat. The walking routes run through wet areas, on which you can stroll with boots. There is another resting area for animals in the bog reserve, which can only be accessed by excursions. A 17.5-kilometer bicycle route has been constructed around the Bargerveen.
