Our modern furnished nature house is located in the middle of the National Park the Drentsche Aa. Bordering the dunes of Gasterse, the Heest and the Balloërveld it is an ideal base for walking, cycling and horseback riding. The nature house is fully equipped, including underfloor heating, a spacious bathroom with bathtub and separate shower cabin. Linen is included in the rental price. Because of the glass back wall the house is wonderfully light and you have a beautiful view over the Gasterse zuides. The Nature House has its own terrace where you can enjoy the sun all day long. In addition, you may use the yard or drink coffee on the swing bench with a beautiful view over the Zuides of Gasteren. It is also possible to bring your own horse(s). For a small extra charge of 15 euros per day stabling and grazing is possible. The nature house and yard are non-smoking.
Nature and surroundings
Gasteren is one of the bog villages located in the middle of the National Brook and Esdorpen Landscape (NBEL). Surrounded by forest, heath and peat, Gasteren used to be a real farming village where everyone lived off agriculture. This has since changed, however. Much land has been given other owners. For example, many nature areas around the village are now managed by the Forestry Commission and the Drenthe Landscape Foundation. There are still two full-time farmers and a large number of "hobby" farmers with horses and sheep. Gasteren is a fantastic base for walking, cycling and horseback riding. Within a radius of 10km you will find yourself in Assen, Gieten, Rolde or Zuidlaren. On warm days you can swim in the natural lake "t Nije Hemelriek" in Gasselte.
