Valence-sur-Baïse

Located in the south-west of Gers is Valence-sur-Baïse. Here you can find the 'Abbaye de Flaran', which is built according to the rules of Saint Benedict and therefore looks very sober. From your cottage, visit this abbey, founded by the monks of Escaladieu in 1151. This abbey is considered to be one of the most beautifully preserved abbeys in the south-west of France. The abbey itself includes a Romanesque church, consisting of a nave with 3 bays. This abbey is a daughter monastery of the famous abbey of Fontenay in Burgundy, which is located just north of Valence-sur-Baïse.
